This key infrastructural element will work concordant with the numerous efforts across the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital, while allowing us to collect patient data to drive our research aims.

  • (2012) LIFE Cancer Survivorship Database for Pediatric Cancer is being led by Dr. David R. Freyer. The purpose of this study is to develop a mechanism for utilizing the comprehensive clinical database of childhood cancer survivors at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) for research purposes. Using clinical information obtained from follow-up visits of childhood cancer survivors, the database will focus on interventions to improve health status and health-related quality of life in childhood cancer survivors. This study is currently recruiting participants.

  • (2012-2014) The Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and the Aflac Foundation awards outstanding investigators early in their careers who are interested in adolescent and young adult oncology research. Dr. Melanie Goldfarb received this award in 2012 with mentorship by Dr. Stuart Siegel and Dr. David R. Freyer.

  • (2012) Concern Foundation is funding the development of an AYA Tissue Sample and Bio-Repository with more than 40 years of Los Angeles County patient and tissue sample data. As part of the Los Angeles Residual Tissue Repository (LA-RTR) at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Wendy Cozen is using this very unique resource to advance our related research efforts.

  • (2012) St. Baldrick’s Foundation has provided grant support to Dr. Dennis Deapen and Dr. Myles Cockburn from USC’s Los Angeles Cancer Surveillance Program (CSP) to analyze cancer-specific incidence and mortality trends for the Los Angeles County AYA population for period 1975 – 2010. This is a landmark study that will provide us with a foundational understanding of cancers in the AYA population serving as a foundation both here in Los Angeles and nationwide.

  • (2012) Aflac Foundation is funding a quality of life study led by Kathleen Meeske, Ph.D. on the “Psychosocial Outcomes in Adolescent Cancer Survivors During Their First Five Years of Survivorship: A Longitudinal Study”
